The Future of Information Management

Our guest presenter was Bill Tolson, the author of two eBooks "the Know IT All's Guide to eDiscovery" and "The Bartenders Guide to eDiscovery" as well as the book "Email Archiving for Dummies".   Bill has been a featured speaker at many industry events including the Government Technology Conferences, AIIM 2009 and ARMA.  Bill has held senior management positions at Hewlett-Packard, Hitachi Data Systems, StorageTek, and Iomega.

The AIIM Michigan Chapter Scholarship is Back!

2011 Annual Scholarship Award

Graduating Seniors of Michigan High Schools and Undergraduate Students at Michigan Colleges and Universities

Requirements for scholarship consideration

      Applicants must sponsored by an AIIM Professional member in good standing.

      An AIIM member can sponsor up to three students who can be any relative, friend, colleague, or dependent thereof.

      To be eligible, high school seniors must have a minimum 2.75 GPA. College students must have a cumulative minimum 2.75 GPA.

      Applicant must attend a college or university in the state of Michigan.

      Most recent high school or college transcript of classes is required.

      Scholarship applications must be postmarked by April 29, 2011. 

      Scholarship winner will be determined by May 20, 2011.

      Scholarship award is $500 for the 2011 school year.

      The winner and sponsor will be expected to attend an award ceremony to receive the check.

eDiscovery and Compliance Seminar

This presentation was led by Gabrielle A. Finnan, Esq., Electronic Discovery Specialist, Iron Mountain Stratify, and Carol A. Romej, J.D., LL.M., Shareholder, Butzel Long.  They discussed recent eDiscovery decisions and the effect these have on corporate practices related to information management and eDiscovery compliance.

OOPS! - Am I missing something?!

Betsy Fanning, from the AIIM National Board of Directors, was our featured speaker for an informative discussion of the various Web 2.0 tools and Social Media sites.

Recent Event - Compliance & eDiscovery

Mr. Tom Reding led a session entitled "It's what my company and I didn't know about e-mail archiving and e-discovery that got us into trouble" at the Schoolcraft College VisTaTech Center on February 10.

Tom is an Executive Consultant for ECM Compliance and eDiscovery Solutions with IBM Software Group, Information Management.  He has over 30 years of experience in highly regulated industries, specializing in business transformation, solving client information integration, content/document management, electronic records management, knowledge management, and litigation support issues, targeted at enhancing organizational productivity.

Detroit Institute of Arts Tour

AIIM members enjoyed an inside look at the content management of the Detroit Institute of Arts.  Ms. Pam Watson, Head Registrar was our keynote speaker guiding us through the inner workings of our world class museum.  Afterwards, we broke into small groups for private docent tours.

   Case Study - NuSoft Solutions has graciously provided a case study showing how Van Andel Institute has implemented Electronic Forms to cut their paperwork.  Van Andel estimates $50,000 in savings for the first year.

   Case Study - Here is a Solution provided by Plasmon detailing how the FAA chose a platform for Data Security and Retention of its Civil Aviation records.  The FAA is responsible for the maintenance of the Civil Aviation Registry containing 320,000 civil aircraft along with 4.2 million airmen records.
